Linksys router configuration without Cd or software?
The Internet internet modem will allow only one desktop to go on the Internet. There are different authentication systems used by internet modem to allow Internet access. To install the router you need to know the authentication types. Once you understand the concept of authentication, you will be able to configure the wireless router. All the broadband routers have web based configuration interface also called as installation page. You need to open the installation page of the broadband router.
First connect your main pc to the modem and make sure that modem is operating. Try to access the Internet when your desktop is connected directly to the modem. If your pc is able to go online through the internet modem then Internet on your modem is working fine. If you are not able to go online through the modem then contact your ISP first and get your modem operating.
In case of some DSL Internet connection type, you may not be able to go on Internet directly through the modem. In this case you will need PPPoE user name and password from your ISP.
Step 1: Connect the modem to the Internet port on Linksys wireless router.
Step 2: Connect the main personal computer to the Ethernet port on Linksys broadband router.
Step 3: Open the setup page of the broadband router. Setup page is the page where you can change the Internet connection settings of the broadband router.
Step 4: Change the Internet access settings of your broadband router according to the type of your Internet access DSL or Cable.
Step 5: Power cycle the router and the modem. Try to access the Internet on the main desktop. If your main personal computer is able to access the Internet then wired part of your broadband router is working.
Step 6: Change the wi-fi access settings. Create a new wi-fi network with the unique SSID and wi-fi security password. Wi-fi security is very important. DO not share your wi-fi network password with anybody. Use a strong password with a combination of numbers and letters.
Step 7: Connect your wi-fi personal computers and devices to the wi-fi network. The procedure to connect to the wireless network will be different for different operating systems. There is wi-fi network connection for windows XP pc. For Windows Vista and Windows 7 there is Network and sharing center. Airport is for MAC operating system. In case of lower version of windows operating system like windows 2000, 98, ME, you will need to use third party adapter utility. If you have Linksys wi-fi adapter on your personal computer then you will use Linksys wi-fi monitor to connect to the wireless network. In case of windows XP, you can use either windows utility or manufacturer’s utility.
Best place to position the wi-fi wireless router:
It is recommended that you should not place your wireless router close to the microwave or fridges. Avoid putting radio transmitting / receiving devices near metal objects, as the metal gets in the way of the signal. Keep it at least 1 foot away from the wall and 3 feet above the ground. Do not keep it under the desk. Keep it above the desk.
